PERSONALITY:[/color] To describe Ludwig, frankly, the word to use is ‘awkward’. He’s much too stern for a child his age; often he doesn’t know how to express himself and ends up making a mess of things. He’s well aware of this and is determined to fix it, but his conviction just makes it worse. He makes an effort to become friends with the other children, but his look of determination is so intense, it usually scares them off. It may be because of this that he tends to keep many of his acts of kindness roundabout or anonymous. Though Ludwig is overly polite, when he wants something, he seems unable to use his words to convey it. Instead of being honest, he thinks that force will net him his goal, though it rarely works out that way. Regardless, you can still find him chasing around and harassing his peers for this or that. Though on the other hand, when he gets embarrassed, he’s the one that does the running away.
Stemming from his serious personality, Ludwig tends to be rather prudish. He keeps a large wall between himself and girls in general. But he can be overdramatic about this and take it too far; he completely freaks out if the situation even hints toward intimate implications, and absolutely refuses to look if a girl is showing (what he thinks is) too much skin. It may seem as if he’s overly mature for his age, but really, his overmodest actions are just another product of his awkward nature.
Already, Ludwig has begun to form a respect for rules and regulations. He is incredibly responsible for his age and he has to be, considering his older brother’s tendency to find trouble. Because of Ludwig’s maturity (and Gilbert’s apparent lack of it), their roles as brothers often seem to be switched. Ludwig holds himself responsible for both their well-beings, and is usually the voice of reason that keeps Gilbert from reckless behavior. Not that it ever works. But despite that, like most young children, he looks up to his older brother as a friend and figure to respect.
Coupled with his sense of responsibility is an unwavering loyalty for those he cares for. Though the people that become close to him are few and far between, he’ll give anything to protect those who have. This sort of desperation, like many of the things he does, can get out of hand. Sometimes Ludwig will uncharacteristically shirk his duties to ensure they’ll be alright, usually by hiding and watching them. With this sort of dedication, it’s daunting to imagine what he would do with a crush. Luckily, at his young age, Ludwig hasn't found ‘love’ in the romantic sense. But when he does, you can be sure that his selflessness for them will be boundless. His entire world could crumble for their sake -- and he wouldn’t care a bit.

Oblivious as always, Antonio had missed the way Lovino simmered and ground out an angered reply, and despite the evident displeasure on the youth's face, he heard only the cordial words. In all fairness, he could not be too badly blamed for his ignorance, as the boy's irritation faded quickly and before he could take notice. It only took a genuinely honest smile from his part to coax away the choleric expression, and Antonio was full of such smiles for the young Italian. The Spaniard's only qualm was that he had yet to see the boy's own smile; with such a cherubic face, he imagined that even the slightest quirk of lips would be markedly beautiful.
The pair continued down the halls in silence, apart from the soft pattering of their steps. Lovino did not seem to want to talk, so Antonio, in a rare instance of perception, complied. Though truthfully, Antonio was not accustomed to the lack of rowdiness. He was always talking, or singing, or plucking a melody on the Vihuela. He surrounded himself with noise. But strangely, at this moment he didn't feel awkwardness. It was a comfortable lull, and instead of his normal chatter, Antonio found himself stealing backward glances at Lovino. The boy was adorable; he couldn't help himself. Antonio continued like this contentedly, until he heard the soft whisper of his name unknowingly spoken. Spagna. He jolted to a sudden stop, surprised.
He had almost wanted to question Lovino's sudden murmur when he saw the cold impassiveness on the other's features. His sunny smile nearly plummeted, as if that look had been directed to him. But he told himself that couldn't be true. For Lovino to guess the truth was impossible. Still, it made Antonio's mind reel with reasons why the child looked like he held disdain for... well, him. He could not recall if he had done anything to wrong Rome's inhabitants, and could not conjure a reason for the startlingly mature countenance that found itself on the boy. Antonio let his mind wander as he continued the walk to the papal office, and soon, Lovino's hesitant inquires filled the air.
From España? He chuckled softly at that.
"I suppose ya could say that," he answered, tone playful and enigmatic. "Nah, 'm not really a knight. Not a nobleman, either." Antonio looked thoughtful now, for the first time contemplating the complicated role he played on the stage of the world. He had never needed to think about it much; he thought that he led a simple life. He had fought in every war his rulers had waged, but he didn't think himself a knight. Caballeros were trained in knighthood since birth, and to say himself a knight would besmirch their title. He wasn't a member of the court, though he'd always been at the side of his kings. He could wear embroidered doublets and expensive hose, but he could don the peasant garb with just as much grace. He represented all the statuses in Spain, not just royalty. He didn't hold a prestigious position, really. He was simply... the embodiment of the Kingdom of Spain and its people. Most wouldn't believe him if he tried to explain it, though he felt this child would, because children were like that, trusting and openhearted. But even so, it wasn't in his place to reveal such things.
The truth is we do.
