PERSONALITY: Arthur Kirkland in a nutshell is a stuffy, cynical, sharp-tongued, tsundere, gentleman, but there really is more to him that that.
When he was just a child nation, he was rather quiet and gentle. He spent most of his time outside, admiring nature. He was very interested in animals, and he was kind to them. He was often seen carrying around a bunny rabbit that he took care of. Despite his calm demeanor, he was picked on often by his peers and elders. He would get very frustrated and angry whenever someone made fun of him, and he'd burst into tears if he was pushed far enough. The poor child was constantly beat up by his brothers. His brothers even went so far as to send him curses in the mail!
As he grew up, Arthur became more aloof and disinterested in other people. His adolescent years were spent as a pirate. He was very gruff and prone to rough speech. He had a very heated rivalry with France and Spain
During and after World War II, other territories under British control were lost, and by the end of WWII, the British Empire was in a rapid decline. Because he had had so much power, Arthur was a bit exasperated when his control over those territories slipped away, and his personality began to change.
After the British Empire finally dissipated, Arthur was left with his own tiny island which he had to share with his brothers anyway. He was back where he started, and he really didn't like it. Now, he acts like a cynical old man. He's very irritable, and he bickers with everyone over everything. He can also see various magical creatures that have accompanied him through life since he was a child, but no one else can see them. (Though, occasionally, someone is able to catch a glance.) Most people think he's gone a bit off his rocker when he talks to his friends.
All in all, Arthur is a self-proclaimed gentleman, but he is too

RP EXAMPLE: The sun was shining, and the air was cool in the autumn breeze. The red and gold leaves fluttered to the ground, traveling on the moving air to leave their home on the branches. The grass was still green as it peeked out from underneath the blanket of fallen leaves, and the sky was a grayish-blue as the clouds started to gather. It seemed like it might rain later in the day, but all kinds of people were outside, enjoying the good weather while it lasted. It was fairly uncommon for a day to be that nice in England, especially during the autumn. No one was complaining, though; they all enjoyed a break from the relentless rainfall every now and then. The kids certainly enjoyed the pleasant weather, and they ran around in the park, jumping into leaf piles, rolling in the grass, playing hide and go seek among the trees, and what have you. Their parents lounged on the benches nearby, chatting about their troubles and joys in life, sipping on plastic cups of tea and coffee. An elderly man was sitting in his wheelchair in a patch of sunlight, reading the daily newspaper while his granddaughter sat on a blanket next to him, drawing beautiful landscapes into a notebook for her college art class. A few men and women were jogging outside instead of inside on a treadmill, and a teenage couple held hands while walking along and talking about this and that. The park was a common place for the people of London to flock to on days like that, and it was bustling with energy and activity. Everyone was happy and carefree.
But little did they know, something horrible was about to happen.
Arthur Kirkland had been feeling a bit of unease in the pit of his stomach, and he knew, in the back of his mind, that something was not right about that day. Despite his nagging premonition, he went outside to walk in the fresh air, taking in the beautiful scenery that autumn brought. He was enjoying his walk. He admired all the activity in the park, waving to the children who pointed at him. He smiled softly to himself. He heard a plane flying overhead, and he peered up into the sky. He shielded his eyes from the sun with his hand, and he saw a rather large plane flying rather low down. His eyebrows furrowed, and he saw a large, round something fall from the plane. He followed the object with his eyes, and it disappeared past the horizon, and then all of a sudden-- boom! It looked like a huge hole exploded out of his chest, or he had been shot by a really big bullet right in the heart. He stood there with wide eyes, watching and feeling the blood dripping and pouring, and then he collapsed onto his knees. He heard the screaming, and he felt the heat of fires, and he could feel the painful deaths of thousands of people. He clutched the gaping wound in his chest, and he began to sob and scream. A huge mushroom cloud rose up into the sky in the distance, the orange-yellow glow of fire and destruction painted the sky red.
London had been bombed.
The truth is we do.
